Buildings
Since our inception in 2010, Team Haiti has funded and labored to provide a church building, a sanitary community bathroom, and several homes. We have also helped build separate housing for the teen girls and teen boys within the village orphanage.
Our approach to providing housing is not limited to simply building four walls and a roof. Our mission is to make homes. Therefore, each home is customized to fit the desires of its recipient. This includes furniture, working kitchens, and other comforts associated with a home. With generous giving and in-kind donations, Team Haiti is able to procure bedding necessities, curtains, kitchen utensils, dinnerware, decorative items, and more.
Shipping these items to Haiti from the United States is an additional challenge. In addition to scheduling a freight container to arrive on time, the associated fees from both countries can take a toll on the allotted budget.
A home typically costs $8,000. Of that, $7,000 is budgeted to material costs while the remaining $1,000 is used for basic for furnishings.
We are also in the final stages of building a state-of-the-art school for the Carries children. The two-story building provides a place for more than 300 students to attend. When completed, the school will house a computer room and library; and it will operate on solar power. It will also include an area to provide afternoon secondary education for older residents in the village. The school’s cafeteria currently provides daily breakfast and lunch to those in need.
Team Haiti is also working with other missionary teams and sponsors to ensure the building’s completion at end of the year 2023.
